Meeting minutes 24/4/08

From memory:

Lets get the Clubs exchange project moving. Tom and Liz (and now Paula too) are in Melbourne in May so lets hook up with Andie and have a meeting and then go talk to Clubs.

Liz to email Enjoy and investigate support options, Tom to email Andie and suss out who to contact (is that right? or was it Mel - i have forgotten).

Conversation as to the possibilities of project revolved around a poster idea, in keeping with resource form and providing a description of the transition from individual to group mentality.

Hey Guys!
I'm happy to make contact with someone from Clubs seeing as I'm over here and all, I can track them down. Just wondered if any correspondence has taken place re: TAC and Clubs collaborating since Clubs were at Enjoy? and if so what has been discussed?
The artists involved in Clubs are all very active and engaged in many different projects however I havent heard of any Clubs related activity since last september (see their website http://www.clubsproject.org.au/index.phpSUSTAINING PRACTICES:
WORKSHOPS IN SEPTEMBER 2007)

I don't think that there has been any correspondence between TAC and CLUBs directly. There might have been some suggestions about who the exchange partner may be through Enjoy? Mel or Paula, do you know anything about that?
Perhaps the best way forward is to suss out a good contact person and draft a brief email with regards to who we are,our background, and what we might want to do (this is as yet uncertain :), and this can be circulated amongst Clubs people perhaps?
what do you guys think?

I think that's a great idea. I am going to be a bit distracted for the next few weeks but will be able to help. Tom, how do you think the best way of getting project ideas together will be? Do you think it would be better to wait till we can have a face to face meeting in Melbourne or before? I am easy.

yea maybe a face to face meeting first would be best?

im confused. face to face with TAC members before going to melbourne? or face to face with CLUBs people in melbourne?
im happy to draft an email if we decide that is a good way to go.

I am confused by the nonspecific face to face suggestion too!
I think it would be really worthwhile drafting up a letter regardless of how we first make contact.

oops that was just me above writing under the wrong account- wanted to say emailing around a draft first is good so that we can all be involved, but meeting face to face in melbourne before contacting clubs is what i was meaning originally-
if that makes any more sense!

Awesome, I just bumped into Christopher Hill and mentioned our interest in starting something up here, he is no longer making work with CLUBs but is going to mention it to another member who works on the campus I am at. Will keep you posted but in meantime is there anything I shoul or shouldn't mention???

cool, also met a guy called Ry from Damp - the VCA office is a busy place! Have his contact details and he suggested we could all go along to a Damp meeting. What are poeoples schedules like? I think Paula is here from the 20th to the 26th, Tom - do you know how busy you will be with the Next Wave writers camp?

im really unsure about when and where i will be during the festival. my only confirmed date is i will be busy all day on tuesday 20 may at workshops. liz, perhaps it would be best for you to set up and meeting and i will try and make it work. i think my time will be pretty flexible.
also - liz as our plans are as to what we would like to work on are pretty uncertain, im happy for you to say whatever to people that you meet up with.
hope melb is good so far - am getting excited about heading over.

Hi guys,

My name is Michaela Gleave, I'm a Sydney-based artist and someone posted a message about your CAMRU project into an art work I had as part of the Next Wave Festival. I also met Liz (if it's the same Liz?) at the opening party and checked out her 'Free School', though unfortunately didn't make it to one of the classes whilst I was down in Melbourne. The work I had in the festival was a 'Mobile Democratic Communication Device' which invited the public to post their thoughts into a 'hot dog' stand/polling booth which translated them into 15 seconds worth of bubbles.

I finally got around to looking you up, and am excited about what you do. I'm currently a director at Firstdraft Gallery in Sydney, as well as involved in a new artist discussion group kind of thing called 'The Free Association' which is in its first few weeks of operation, super early days, but inspired by the Clubs model down in Melbourne. I thought I'd open communication with you guys, with the potential for setting up come kind of exchange/exhibition opportunity for you here.

websites are as follows:

www.firstdraftgallery.com
contact@michaelagleave.com

Send me a line if you're interested in a chat. I'm also heading over to NZ for Christmas/New Year if there's anything you could recommend me checking out at that time of year, or if anyone's free for a coffee!

Michaela
